Aunt Mary had a problem dealing with technology and especially with her VCR recorder. She could not figure out how to use it and she would call me – Joe I need help! So I would go upstairs and once more teach her how to record or play videos on the VCR. Several times I put together step by step instructions but it didn’t help. So I “fixed” her VCR many times.

Mary’s Advice
Aunt Mary was always was offering me and my cousins what she thought was advice on what we did even though we didn’t want it. We would respond “O Aunt Mary!” But that didn’t stop her from offering her advice.
New Years Day Open House
An annual family tradition was that Aunt Mary would have an “open house” on New Years day in her small apartment and everyone in the family stopped by some time to share in her baked Lasagna. People came and went throughout the day. People were sitting everywhere but it was a great celebration to begin the new year.
Mary Ragucci Funeral Homily
Mary Ragucci passed away at age 99, just 26 days away from her 100th birthday, on Nov 19th 2019. The following homily was given by her nephew Deacon Joe Ragucci at her funeral Mass:

Mary was never the same after that. By mid 2016 she deteriorated to the point that she needed increasing care to do daily activities and lost a great deal of weight due to swallowing issues. In Nov 2016 she rolled out of bed and ended up in JFK hospital and then to Roosevelt Care Center ending her time in Brighton Gardens. Her mental and physical condition continue to deteriorate as she celebrated her 97th birthday.
Feb 2017 update: Well Aunt Mary made a miraculous recovery. We all thought she would pass away but she is her feisty self again with all her mental faculties. She is still in a wheelchair but has regained her strength due to being fed by the RCC staff.

Assisted Living (Part 1)
Today, once again, Rose and I visited my Dad (Dominic) and his sister Aunt Mary at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in Edison. It’s unfortunate that as they reached this age (Dad is 95 and Mary is 94) that they need this assistance and can’t live home alone. But it’s the best place for them right now…. Continue reading
